Obtain as much information as possible from the other driver (s) involved in the accident including their vehicle registration number, name, address, telephone number, make, model & colour of the vehicle and insurance details. If the driver is not the owner then also get all the above details relating to  the owner. If  the police are called obtain the officers name, badge number and the police station at which they are based.

If at all possible take  the name, address and telephone numbers of anyone who witnesses the accident. An independent witness is someone who saw the accident from outside your vehicle. Or in the case of a taxi, a fare paying passenger.

 
A sketch will help in understanding how the accident happened. Please draw a sketch showing the following:

• The location of each vehicle before and after impact

• Direction of travel of each vehicle involved

• Road signs and road markings

• Point of impact           

Do not admit responsibility for  the accident and refrain form discussing liability with anyone.
